"As a frequent patron of 580 Craft Beer in Pittsboro, NC from 2023-2024, I felt compelled to share my candid feedback. Initially, my experiences at 580 were largely positive: it served as a welcoming spot for gatherings with friends, boasted a pet-friendly environment, and curated an impressive array of local craft beers, thanks to the discerning choices of the owner. Engaging conversations among a diverse clientele, including many educated individuals, added to its charm. As a parent, I appreciated the provision of activities for children, which made it feel like an inclusive destination for families.
Unfortunately, my initial thoughts were changed by an incident that occurred at 580 in 2024, I was sitting at a table while my children were playing the arcade that I had recently repaired for the owner, when I was approached by a person related to the bartender. The person approached me and made threatening comments that caused several patrons to walk out. I remained calm and attempted to resume a civil conversation but was soon met with personal threats, which were then followed by threats to my family, and finally that my children should “watch out”. These threats were because I had recently started dating another patron who I had met at 580 that this person and the bartender disliked. I questioned what she meant by “watch out” then the person walked away from me and went around shouting expletives. This then caused the owner to tell the woman “this isn't the time or place” and asked the woman to leave.
I understand that the owner intervened and forced the woman to leave the premises, which I appreciate. However, I don't think there is a “time or place” for permitting an intoxicated person to threaten families and shout expletives in front of children. I was dismayed to observe that she was not permanently banned from the establishment as she was related to an employee, and no formal apology or acknowledgment of the incident was provided by any staff or management. In fact, the harassment was permitted to continue. I understand having an employee’s back, but threats and harassment against families should be non-negotiable.
In conclusion, 580 has great beer and is a good place for adults to meet and socialize, but it's not a safe family destination. Incidents like these detract from the overall experience and safety of any establishment. Every patron deserves to feel respected and secure during their visit. I hope no parent has to experience this type of thing in the future at this establishment and I remain hopeful that this incident will serve as an opportunity for reflection and improvement."
