"I would be embarrassed if I owned this place. My boyfriend and I chose it for a weekend getaway from the city but, unfortunately, didn't read the Google Maps reviews beforehand. They are all 100% accurate.
The Room: Following the check-in lady's recommendation, we stayed in the Sheldon room at the White Manor. The location is remote, and driving there at night was unsettling due to the lack of lighting. The carpet in the room was filthy, and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The furniture was outdated and broken. The TV was initially non-functional, and we had to reset it ourselves. Several light bulbs were also out. The room had an overall negative atmosphere, reminiscent of an old, unkempt relative's house (and not in a nostalgic way). The bed was uncomfortable, and we barely slept. We were concerned about the cleanliness of the bed sheets, as everything else smelled musty and looked shabby. I felt unclean when I woke up. The mini fridge in the room started making demonic noises at 3am waking us up. We were excited about the fire place in the room but It was shut down for the season. The room was freezing at our arrival.
Breakfast: The so-called continental breakfast was a joke. There was nothing hot, not even coffee, and it was available only from 7 to 10 a.m. What was most surprising was the lack of basic amenities like water and the absence of staff.
If I could give zero stars, I would, but I have to give at least one. The sole redeeming qualities were the view of the lake from the Edgar restaurant and our room.
I would not recommend this place and plan to share this experience around Manhattan as a cautionary tale. It was overpriced for what it offered, and I’m confident we would have had a better stay elsewhere."
