Known as the pioneer of the vinifera movement, Dr. Konstantin Frank planted his first vinifera vines along Keuka Lake in 1957. Over sixty years and three generations later, the Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery has made the list of top 100 wineries in the world. A native of Ukraine, Dr. Frank's story is movie worthy as earned a PhD from Odessa Agricultural College and emmigrated to the United States through New York City and then made his way to New York State's Finger Lakes Region when Konstantin arrived in Geneva in early April 1952 and was given a tour at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station.

Today, the estate vineyards on Keuka Lake's west side represent some of the oldest Reisling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Northeastern United States.
