Before the craft beer scene exploded, there was Rohrbachs—Rochester’s original craft brewery. Established in 1991 by John and Patty Urlaub, Rohrbach Brewing Co. made its mark as the first craft brewery in Rochester, NY. The inspiration came from Rohrbach, Germany, a quaint town that drove John to bring the art of craft brewing to upstate New York. The brewery originally began in the historic German House on Gregory Street and has since expanded to two bustling locations: the brewery and beer hall on Railroad Street in downtown Rochester and the Buffalo Road Brewpub Restaurant in Gates.
Through all the growth over the past 25 years, Rohrbachs has kept it real. From the early days of growler fills to today's steady flow of can releases, the journey from being Rochester’s pioneer to riding the wave of the craft beer boom has been nothing short of incredible. Whether you’re enjoying a Rohrbach at your favorite bar, catching a game at a stadium, or grabbing some to-go from a local store, their beers are a staple across Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, and the broader Upstate NY area.
But Rohrbachs is more than just Rochester’s oldest brewery. It’s a family-owned, community-focused small business that’s all about brewing classic craft beers while giving back to the place they call home. The original location in Rochester’s Historic German House holds memories from the past, but today, you can experience their brews firsthand with a wood-fired pizza at the Railroad Street brewery, or grab a drink with some comfort food at the Buffalo Road Brewpub in Gates.
